how storywriters started

The original three co-facilitators of STORYWEITERS

While snowbirding in Mesa, Ariizonia, Mary Jackson Rickard organized a group of ladies who shared stories around the campfire. She wanted to continue sharing stories she'd written with fellow writers when she returned to Richland, Washington. She called her friend, Mickey Hunacek, and asked  Mickey what she thought about starting a group. Mickey called another author, Linda Moore, The three women laid a lot of groundwork. They parterned with the Richland Public Library to secure monthly meeting space, created meeting agendas, and arranged speakers. STORYWRITERS was offically created and the first meeting was held in November 2022.

The workload increased as STORYWRITERS matured and meetings were fine-tuned. Dixie Gilbert joined the original co-facilitators in January 2024.

There have been some changes and many things have stayed the same. The name was changed to include "of the Tri-Cities." Speakers are invited quarterly instead of monthly. Critiqueing sessions are held quarterly. Read Arounds, when each person has the opportunity to read a portion of something they've written, are never dull. Our writers genres range from children's books to science fiction. An email newsletter is sent to members and a website is under construction, storywriters-of-the-tri-cities.com.
